Diet suggestions - Steph - 05-26-2016

It's about 3 months since Dolce was diagnosed and she keeps losing weight.  She is eating RC GI food and boiled boneless skinless chicken.  Any suggestions to what else we can feed her to help her gain weight?  We have a weight check and blood test in two weeks and are really nervous.

Hi Steph, I know its been months since your post. I just joined.  My Seamus was just diagnosed.  I have been feeding him boiled boneless skinless chicken breast, as you did but added boiled rice as well and cooked the chicken in a big can of low fat chicken broth.  After I mix all the cooked ingredients, I run them through the food processor to make a slurry (as he was pooping out the grains of rice).  I think that the rice is giving him calories he needs.  He initially went from 74 to 54 pounds.  He has since gained back a couple. Most of all, his tail is wagging and he is less sick and more like himself.  Hope this helps, Heidi

Hi, Steph:

In order to get Diva to gain weight I have actually gone to three meals a day. The reason is she eats all of her breakfast but then burns off whatever weight she gains by 5:30 p.m. which is her second meal. By adding a lunchtime meal, we are starting to bulk her up without overwhelming her with a lot of food at breakfast or dinner. It seems to make it easier for her to digest and assimilate.

She is on: Royal Canin lowfat gastrointestinal, rice, nonfat tuna, fatty tuna, nonfat milk powder and nonfat cottage cheese.
