Hope I am posting this correctly and I apologize ahead of time for a long intro post. My 11.5 yr old silver dapple dachshund, Daisy, has been diagnosed with PLE and heart issues. Her albumin is 1.7 and belly was badly bloated but she acts 100% fine... Like a happy puppy eating up a storm, playing, etc. NO vomiting or diarrhea. She's on 2.5 prednisone twice a day and all fluid is gone. Supplementing diet with egg whites and tofu. Repeating Bloodwork this week to see if proteins are up. Vet plans to switch her off of prednisone bec of heart disease but I'm not sure what he will put her on.. Something to keep the fluid down. While she acts fine and eats more than fine, she is getting very, very thin which has me worried. I know the prednisone isn't good but it's a short term (1 week) fix bec she was already taking it for 2 days coincidentally for grass allergies. I noticed the belly fluid disappeared with it before she was diagnosed so vet didn't want to rock the boat until we got the fluid down, more protein in her diet, and Bloodwork repeated. Having said all that, I'm interested in the meds everyone is talking about and finding a nutritionist. I'll do whatever it takes to keep my girl well. Is a home diet best? Thank you all in advance. PS. I live in Florida but not sure if that's important for finding a nutritionist.
